March Break is just a few weeks away, and as children all over the Durham region are eagerly counting down the days, it’s time to start thinking about how to keep your children busy and active this spring break. From day camps and outdoor skating to Wizard World and a Beauty and the Beast Ball, there are numerous events and activities in the GTA for your children to participate in this March Break. Here are a few of my top picks:
Beauty and the Beast Ball
On Monday, March 13th the Clarington Library will be hosting a Beauty and the Beast Ball for children ages 4-6. The event takes place from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM and admission is free. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite character from Beauty and the Beast and enjoy some exciting fairy tale fun.
Legendary Day Camp
From Monday, March 13th to Friday, March 17th your child can partake in Legendary Day Camp at the Legends Centre. Your child will have the opportunity to participate in a number of organized activities, including games, arts & crafts, sports, and recreational swimming. You can register online here and are required to fill out a camper form prior to the commencement of camp.
Looking for Birds
If your child is between the ages of 9-12 they are eligible to participate in a free bird seminar at the Pickering Library Petticoat Creek Branch. On Tuesday, March 14th children will be able to read stories and sing songs about birds, as well as make a bird feeder to take home. Visit the Pickering Library website to learn more about the event.
Wizard World
If your child happens to be a Harry Potter aficionado, then chances are they would be overjoyed with a trip to Wizard World at Exhibition Place in Toronto. Taking place from March 12th to March 19th from 10 AM-6 PM daily, Wizard World is an indoor family fun park. It features over 25 rides, 4 shows that run all day, as well as a clown, magic show, and reptilia.
Free Public Skating
March Break is the perfect time to get outdoors and stay active. On Thursday March 26th the Scugog Community Recreation Centre is offering free skating from 1 PM TO 2:20 PM. To obtain tickets for the event visit their website.
Visual Arts Centre of Clarington March Break Camp 2017
Register your child for a single day or the entire week at the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington. Your child will have the opportunity to participate in and learn about a variety of art mediums, including clay art, printmaking, and mixed media sculpture. For prices and registration visit their website.
Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival
The 41st Annual Maple Syrup Festival will be taking place at Purple Woods Conservation Area in Oshawa from March 11th until April 2nd. Enjoy some hot pancakes with fresh maple syrup, take your kids on a horse-drawn wagon ride and learn about how maple syrup was processed 400 years ago compared to modern times. It will be an educational and delicious afternoon outing.
I hope I have given you some ideas on how to keep your family busy and engaged over March Break. This is the perfect time to spend some quality time with your children, try new things and explore what Durham and the GTA have to offer.
