With a new year nearly upon us, it’s time to look towards the home and colour trends that will be taking centre stage in 2017. Grey was undoubtedly the colour of 2016, and an infusion of grey can still be seen in many of this year’s top picks. Let’s take a look at some of the top colour picks by industry experts:

Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore has named “Shadow” the colour of 2017. What colour exactly is shadow? Benjamin Moore describes it as “a rich, deep amethyst”. This evocative and eye-catching colour can help your home make a bold statement.

Sherwin-Williams

Playing off the popularity of grey in 2016, Sherwin-Williams has named “Poised Taupe” the colour of 2017. A mixture of brown and grey, poised Taupe is a warm, neutral colour that is extremely versatile and can give your home a hint of colour without overwhelming your senses.

Glidden

Glidden has announced that “Byzantine Blue” will be its colour of 2017. This colour is a calming combination of grey, purple and blue, creating a unique and tranquil palette. Depending on what other colours it is paired with it can appear predominantly grey (if paired with dark neutrals) or blue/purple (if paired with white or lighter colours).

Olympic

Following the trend of soft calming neutrals, Olympic has named ‘Cloudberry’ colour of the year for 2017. Cloudberry is a soft violet hue that evokes tranquillity and serenity, encouraging a stress-free atmosphere.

Dunn-Edwards

Veering away from the other large paint companies, Dunn-Edwards has named “Honey Glow” the colour of 2017. This is a warm, optimistic colour that will easily brighten and enliven any room. Dunn-Edwards is also donating 10% of all sales of Honey Glow to the non-profit foundation HoneyLove, which is dedicated to helping bees survive the threat of extinction.

Dulux

Inspired by the cosmos, Dulux has named “Starry Sky” its colour of 2017. This subtle hue is a combination of grey and violet and will work well in most rooms. As you can see, purple and grey are a popular combination for 2017, and for a good reason. These two colours complement one another and give a room dimension, while also evoking peace and calmness. This colour pairs extremely well with white (trim, doors and furniture), to give a room contrast and vibrancy.

If you are thinking of redecorating your home in 2017, then you may want to consider testing some of these colours to see if they will work in your house. Sometimes all a room needs is a fresh coat of paint to rejuvenate your living space. So whether you go for a bright, bold colour or prefer to stick with calming neutrals, a new year is the perfect time to introduce a new colour palette into your home.
